How it works
- 1~90s
Read your child 4-6 pages of a picture book — or tell a short story. Then have a conversation about anything your child is interested in. Observe two things: First, how well does your child listen and understand — does they respond to what you say, follow the story, answer questions about it? Second, how does your child speak — does they use well-formed sentences, describe experiences in detail, connect ideas? Does they use language to explain, reason, or discuss? Tell me what you observe.
Watch for: Child listens attentively and responds to what they hear
- 2~90s
Set up a moderately challenging activity — something with rules, a goal, and a little frustration built in. A puzzle, a building challenge, a drawing task. Tell your child the rules and start the timer mentally. Observe two things: First, does your child stay on task without adult direction? Does they manage feelings when something goes wrong — not immediately asking for help, not melting down? Does they show understanding of their own emotions? Second, can your child manage basic personal needs independently — getting a drink, using the toilet, putting on shoes — without being prompted for every step? Tell me what you see.
Watch for: Child shows self-regulation — manages emotions and stays on task
- 3~90s
Set up 10-15 minutes of free creative time — drawing, painting, play dough, or building. Don't direct it; just provide materials and let your child decide. Observe two things: First, does your child create imaginatively — inventing scenarios, making characters, telling a story through their creation? Does they use arts and play to express ideas and feelings? Second, how are your child's creating skills — fine control with a pencil or crayon, ability to shape materials, using tools deliberately? Does your child show sustained creative effort? Tell me what you observe.
Watch for: Child is imaginative and expressive in arts and play
