How it works

  1. 1

First, let's get your child's attention. Make eye contact and say your child's name in a warm, sing-song voice. Watch how they responds.

  2. 2

Now, let's vary your voice. Make a soft 'shhh' sound, then a gentle 'ooo' sound. Watch your child's face and eyes.

  3. 3

Let's add a simple, repetitive phrase. Say 'Hello, your child! Hello!' with a rhythmic bounce or gentle movement. See if they joins the rhythm.

  4. 4

Now, let's introduce a simple object sound. If you have a soft toy or crinkly paper, gently shake or crinkle it near your child, then immediately say 'What's that sound?' in an curious voice. Watch where they looks.
