Hands to Feet Connection

Parent gently brings baby's hands to touch corresponding feet during diaper changes, helping baby discover body connections and develop spatial awareness. The agent coaches the parent to observe midline crossing, body exploration, and tactile discovery as baby learns about extremities.

What you'll need

Baby lying on back after diaper change, alert and calm. Remove shoes and socks if wearing any. Baby should be in a comfortable position with arms and legs free to move.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start with your child's right side. Gently take their right hand and right foot and bring them together so they touch. Say something like 'Look, your child! Your hand can meet your foot!' Then gently rub the hand and foot together for a few seconds. Watch your child's face — does they seem to notice this connection? Does they look at where you're touching or show any expression of discovery?

Watch for: Baby shows awareness of body connection when hand and foot are brought together — looking, smiling, or exploring the contact.

  2. 2~35s

Now let's try the left side. This time, watch for something special — when you bring your child's left hand to their left foot, does they need to cross the midline of their body? Some babies will naturally reach across their body with the right hand to help or explore. Notice if your child coordinates both sides or if they keeps each side separate. What do you see?

Watch for: Baby attempts to cross body midline — reaching with one hand toward the opposite side of the body during the activity.

  3. 3~40s

For our last exploration, gently rub your child's hand and foot together in different ways — maybe palm to sole, fingers to toes, back of hand to top of foot. Then separate them and softly stretch both out. Watch your child's reaction to these different sensations. Does they seem to enjoy certain textures more? Does they try to bring them back together or explore independently?

Watch for: Baby explores different tactile sensations when hand and foot make contact — showing preference, curiosity, or active investigation.
