Bumblebee Tracking Game

Parent plays a playful finger-tracking game during diaper changes, moving a 'bumblebee' finger in arcs and circles before landing with a gentle tickle. The agent coaches the parent to observe visual tracking, focus shifts, and anticipatory responses as baby learns to follow movement and predict playful touch.

What you'll need

Baby lying on back on a safe, comfortable surface (like a changing mat). Baby should be calm and alert. No materials needed — just parent's finger and voice.

How it works

  1. 1~25s

Hold up your index finger near your child's face and say in a playful voice, 'Look, a little bumblebee!' Make a buzzing sound as you slowly move your finger in a small arc from one side to the other, about a foot from your child's face. Watch their eyes closely. Does your child follow your finger with their gaze? Tell me what you see.

Watch for: Baby smoothly tracks a moving object (parent's finger) with eyes, keeping focus as it moves.

  2. 2~30s

Now let's make it a little trickier. Move your finger back from your child's face and make slow, big circles in the air. Say, 'Round and round the bumblebee goes!' Watch if your child shifts their focus to follow the circular path. Does they look from the top of the circle to the bottom? Or does their gaze get stuck in one spot?

Watch for: Baby shifts visual focus to follow an object moving through different planes (like a circle).

  3. 3~20s

Time for the big finish! Say in a high, excited pitch, 'Look at the yummy nectar!' Slowly bring your buzzing finger down toward your child's neck. Pause just before you touch. Watch your child's face and body. Does they show any signs of anticipation — a smile, a wiggle, a giggle, or eyes widening — before you tickle? That's them learning to predict what comes next!

Watch for: Baby shows excitement or physical reaction (smile, wiggle, laugh) in anticipation of a playful touch.
