What you'll need

Toddler lying on back for diaper change, alert and calm. Parent positioned where toddler can see their face and gestures clearly. No materials needed.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start by making warm eye contact with your child. Say 'Mommy says touch your head!' while you touch your own head with both hands. Then gently help your child bring their hands to their head. Watch their face — does your child try to copy your gesture even before you help? Do you see them watching your hands and starting to move their own?

Watch for: Toddler attempts to imitate a simple gesture (touching head) after seeing parent demonstrate it.

  2. 2~35s

Now try a different body part. Say 'Mommy says touch your nose!' while touching your own nose. This time, wait a few seconds before helping — give your child a chance to try independently. Does they reach for their nose? Does they look at your nose and then their own? Notice if your child responds differently to this new instruction compared to the head.

Watch for: Toddler shows awareness of different body parts by attempting to touch specific areas when named.

  3. 3~30s

Let's try one more — 'Mommy says touch your tummy!' This time, watch your child's attention throughout. Does they maintain eye contact with you while you demonstrate? Does they listen to the whole instruction before starting to move? Notice if your child seems to enjoy the game — smiling, anticipating the next round, or trying to initiate another body part.

Watch for: Toddler maintains attention through the instruction-demonstration sequence and shows engagement in the interactive game.
