What you'll need
Parent and baby in comfortable feeding position — baby held close, good eye contact possible. Quiet environment with minimal distractions. Can be done during bottle feeding, breastfeeding, or even cuddle time after feeding.
How it works
- 1~40s
As your child begins to feed, start by making gentle eye contact. Share a simple memory from today or yesterday — something like 'Remember when we saw the birds this morning?' or 'I loved how you smiled at me after your nap.' Use a soft, loving tone. Watch your child's face closely — does they maintain eye contact? Does their expression change when they hears your voice? Tell me what you notice.
Watch for: Baby shows emotional responsiveness to parent's loving words and tone during close contact.
- 2~45s
Now let's deepen the connection. Share a story about when your child was younger — maybe about their birth, first smile, or a favorite family moment. Speak slowly and warmly, pausing to let your child respond with looks or sounds. Notice if your child sustains eye contact for longer periods. Does they seem to listen intently? Does they make any sounds or facial expressions in response to different parts of your story?
Watch for: Baby maintains eye contact with parent for extended periods during the storytelling interaction.
- 3~35s
For our final moment, let's focus on the physical closeness. As your child finishes feeding or continues contentedly, gently describe what you're feeling — 'I love holding you close like this' or 'Your little hand feels so warm in mine.' Notice your child's body language. Does they relax completely into you? Does their breathing slow and deepen? Does they seem calm, secure, and comforted by your presence and touch?
Watch for: Baby shows signs of deep relaxation and security during close physical contact with parent.
