Nursing Massage

Parent gently massages baby's feet while breastfeeding, combining tactile stimulation with soothing singing. The agent coaches the parent to observe baby's relaxation responses, foot sensitivity, and positive feeding associations — building multisensory bonding during feeding time.

What you'll need

Baby in feeding position — nursing or bottle-feeding. Parent should be comfortable and able to reach baby's feet easily. No materials needed. Best done during a calm feeding session.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start by gently taking your child's foot in your hand. Use your thumb to make small circles on the sole, starting at the heel and moving toward the toes. As you massage, hum or sing a short, soothing song — something simple and repetitive. Watch your child's face and body. Does they seem to notice the touch? Do you see any change in their sucking rhythm or relaxation? Tell me what you notice.

Watch for: Baby shows awareness of foot massage during feeding — may wiggle toes, change sucking pattern, or show facial response.

  2. 2~35s

Now let's focus on the singing part. Choose a simple song — maybe a lullaby or a nursery rhyme you often sing to your child. Sing softly while continuing the foot massage. Watch your child's eyes and facial expressions. Does they make eye contact with you? Does their body relax more with the combination of touch and voice? Does they seem to associate your singing with this comforting feeding experience?

Watch for: Baby shows positive emotional response to combined feeding, massage, and singing — indicating feeding as a bonding experience.

  3. 3~40s

Now let's try both feet. Gently massage one foot, then the other, making sure to give equal attention. Notice if your child has a preference — does they seem to enjoy one foot more than the other? Also watch for overall calmness. Does your child seem more relaxed and content with the bilateral stimulation? Is they feeding smoothly while receiving massage on both sides?

Watch for: Baby remains calm and content with sustained tactile stimulation during feeding.
