Bug Patrol Game

Parent plays a gentle 'bug patrol' game with baby, using light touch and playful sounds to simulate checking for and preventing insect bites. The agent coaches the parent to observe baby's sensory awareness, cause-effect understanding, and social engagement during this protective play routine.

What you'll need

Baby seated comfortably on parent's lap or on a soft surface. Room should be calm and comfortable. No materials needed. Best done when baby is alert and content.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start by gently tapping your child's arm with your fingertips, making a soft 'tap tap tap' sound. Say 'Let's check for bugs!' in a playful voice. Watch your child's face and body closely — does they notice the touch? You might see them look at their arm, smile, or wiggle in response. Tell me what you notice about their reaction to this gentle checking.

Watch for: Baby shows awareness of light touch on arms or legs during the bug patrol game.

  2. 2~35s

Now let's add a predictable pattern. Tap your child's arm three times, then say 'All clear! No bugs!' with a happy tone. Repeat this sequence on the other arm. Watch to see if your child starts to anticipate the 'All clear!' part — does they smile, coo, or show excitement when you say it? This helps build understanding that actions have predictable outcomes.

Watch for: Baby shows anticipation or response to the predictable pattern in the bug patrol game.

  3. 3~40s

For our final round, make it a full-body check! Gently tap your child's legs, then tummy, then back, each time ending with 'No bugs here!' in a silly voice. Make eye contact and smile throughout. Notice if your child stays engaged with you — does they maintain eye contact, smile back, or make happy sounds? This social connection turns a protective routine into joyful play.

Watch for: Baby maintains social engagement and shows enjoyment during the interactive bug patrol game.
