Equipped Diaper Station

Parent sets up a well-organized diaper changing area with all essentials within reach, creating a calm and efficient routine. The agent coaches the parent to observe baby's visual tracking, calm responses to routine, and early cognitive organization through predictable sequences.

What you'll need

Baby should be calm and alert — perhaps after a feed or nap. Have diaper changing essentials nearby but not yet organized. A changing table, mat, or safe surface is needed. Baby can be lying down or in parent's arms initially.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start by placing your child on the changing surface. As you reach for each item — a diaper, wipes, cream — hold it up briefly where your child can see it, about 8-12 inches from their face. Move it slowly from side to side. Watch your child's eyes. Does they follow the item with their gaze? Even a brief glance counts. Tell me what you notice.

Watch for: Baby visually tracks a moving object (diaper, wipes) with eyes.

  2. 2~40s

Now let's create a predictable sequence. Say the same phrase as you start — maybe 'Time for a fresh diaper!' — then lay out the items in the same order you'll use them: diaper first, then wipes, then cream. Keep your movements calm and rhythmic. Notice your child's body and face. Does they seem to relax into the routine? Any coos, sighs, or calm gazing? Or does they startle or fuss with the movements?

Watch for: Baby shows a calm or positive response to predictable routine steps.

  3. 3~35s

For our last step, place a small toy or visually interesting item (like a soft book or high-contrast card) within your child's view but slightly out of reach. Arrange your diaper station so everything has a specific place. As you put each item in its spot, narrate: 'Diapers go here, wipes go here.' Watch your child. Does they look toward the organized items? Does their gaze move from one item to another as you place them?

Watch for: Baby shows visual engagement with organized items and placement patterns.
