What you'll need
Have diaper changing supplies ready. Have maracas or shakers within reach. Best done when your child needs a diaper change but is in a playful mood. Changing table or safe changing area prepared.
How it works
- 1~25s
Start by noticing your child needs a diaper change. Grab your maracas and shake them with a simple, steady rhythm as you walk toward the changing area. Make eye contact and smile — invite your child into the musical journey. Does they follow you? Does they show interest in the sound or movement? Tell me what you notice.
Watch for: Toddler follows parent toward changing area with interest or participation when music is introduced.
- 2~35s
Now at the changing table, hand your child a maraca to hold. Shake yours to a simple beat — maybe 'shake, shake, pause' — and see if your child tries to match your rhythm. Does they shake the maraca? Does they watch your hands and try to copy the pattern? Even random shaking counts as participation!
Watch for: Toddler shakes maraca in response to parent's rhythm, showing musical engagement.
- 3~40s
As you change the diaper, keep the musical play going. Shake your maraca while using your other hand for the change. Watch your child's face — does they stay engaged with the music? Does they seem to enjoy this interactive diaper change more than usual? Look for smiles, eye contact, or continued shaking even during the care tasks.
Watch for: Toddler shows enjoyment and engagement during musical diaper change, making the routine positively interactive.
