My Eating Chart
Parent introduces a simple visual chart to encourage toddler to try new foods, using stickers or drawings to celebrate tasting attempts. The agent coaches the parent to observe willingness to try new foods, understanding of simple rewards, and engagement in mealtime routines — building positive associations with food exploration.

What you'll need
Parent and toddler seated together at a table. Have paper and stickers/crayons ready. Best done before a meal when toddler is alert but not overly hungry. Keep atmosphere light and playful.
How it works
- 1~30s
Start by showing your child the paper and saying, 'We're going to make a special chart for trying new foods!' Draw a simple grid or just make spaces for stickers. Explain that when they tries something new, they gets to put a sticker on the chart. Watch your child's reaction — does they seem interested in the stickers or drawing? Does they understand this is about food? Tell me what you notice.
Watch for: Toddler engages with the chart-making activity, showing interest in the materials and understanding it's part of a mealtime routine.
- 2~40s
Now bring out a new food — something simple and toddler-friendly that your child hasn't tried before, or hasn't tried recently. Place it next to the chart and say, 'If you try this {food}, you get to pick a sticker!' Offer just a tiny taste. Watch closely — does your child show any willingness to taste it? Even touching it with their tongue or taking a tiny bite counts. What happens?
Watch for: Toddler shows willingness to try a new or unfamiliar food, even if just a small taste.
- 3~30s
Whether your child tried the food or not, now focus on the celebration. If they made any attempt — even just touching it — say 'You tried it! Let's put a sticker on your chart!' Help them place a sticker. Watch your child's reaction to the reward — does they seem proud? Does they understand the connection between trying and getting the sticker? Tell me about their response.
Watch for: Toddler shows understanding of the reward system — connects trying food with getting a sticker and shows positive emotion.
