Edible Fruit and Veggie Stamps

Parent prepares fruit and vegetable stamps with edible yogurt paint, allowing toddler to explore stamping art while developing fine motor control, bilateral coordination, and sensory exploration. The agent coaches the parent to observe how the child holds stamps, applies pressure, transfers objects between hands, and engages in creative play with food materials.

What you'll need

Plastic mat on floor. Fruits/vegetables cut into stamp shapes (apple halves, bell pepper rings, etc.). Edible paint made from yogurt and food coloring on a plate. Toddler in clothes that can get messy. Parent nearby for supervision.

How it works

  1. 1~40s

Start by showing your child how to pick up a fruit stamp with one hand. Then demonstrate dipping it into the yogurt paint on the plate. Now hand your child a stamp and encourage them to try dipping. Watch closely — does your child hold the stamp securely? Can they manage to dip it without dropping it? Some toddlers might even try holding the stamp in one hand while touching the paint with the other. Tell me what you notice.

Watch for: Toddler holds a stamp in one hand while possibly touching or holding another object (like another stamp or a paint-covered finger) with the same hand.

  2. 2~45s

Now show your child how to press the painted stamp firmly onto the mat to make a print. Use both hands if needed — press down with one hand on top of the stamp. Then let your child try. Watch how they applies pressure — does your child use a gentle tap or a firm press? Does they use both hands together or one hand on top of the other? Notice if your child seems to enjoy the sensory feedback of squishing the stamp.

Watch for: Toddler uses pressing or squeezing motion with hands to apply stamp to surface, showing controlled pressure.

  3. 3~50s

For our last observation, offer your child a couple of different stamps — maybe a veggie ring and a fruit slice. See if your child transfers a stamp from one hand to the other while exploring. Does they put down one stamp to pick up another without dropping them accidentally? Watch for any spinning or turning motions — some toddlers might twist the stamp on the mat or turn it in their hands. Tell me about their coordination and exploration.

Watch for: Toddler transfers stamps between hands or puts them down intentionally without accidental drops.
