Let's draw! II

Complete this activity with {child_name} and one of {his_her} friends. Review different body parts together, then have them work as a team to draw pictures of friends or family members. Observe their cooperation, ask who they're drawing, and see if they can draw body parts independently. Color together, then use yarn and scissors to add hair details, practicing turn-taking.

How it works

  1. 1

First, let's review body parts with both kids. Say something like: 'Can you point to your head? How about your arms and legs?' This helps them think about what to draw.

  2. 2

Now, give them paper and crayons. Ask them to work together to draw a person. Say: 'Let's draw a picture of someone you love! Can you and your friend share the crayons and take turns adding parts?'

  3. 3

Next, bring out yarn and scissors. Ask them to take turns cutting small yarn pieces for hair. Say: 'Now let's give our person hair! You cut one piece, then your friend cuts one.' Also, notice if your child can draw circles while coloring.

  4. 4

Finally, have them glue yarn hair and paste their pictures onto cardstock. Ask: 'Who did you draw? Can you tell me about the body parts you included?'
