How it works

  1. 1

First, let's help your child make some small playdough balls and place them in the cupcake tray compartments. Then, show them how to unscrew the jar lid. Say, 'Let's make little balls and put them in the tray!'

  2. 2

Now, encourage your child to use their thumb and index finger to pick up each playdough ball from the tray and drop it into the jar. Say, 'Use your pincer fingers like a little crab claw to pick up each ball!'

  3. 3

Take the balls out and put them back in the tray. Hand your child the plastic fork. Ask them to pick up the balls with the fork and put them in the jar. Say, 'Let's use the fork like we do at mealtime!'

  4. 4

Finally, ask your child to screw the jar lid back on. Talk about the items you used—playdough, tray, jar, fork—to build vocabulary. Say, 'Can you close the jar? What did we use today?'
