What can you see? II

Explain to your child that this time, you won't be reading the book to {him_her}. Instead, you'll both be trying to understand what is happening through the illustrations. Ask questions about the images, including setting, characters, colors, places, and emotions.

How it works

  1. 1

Let's start by looking at a colorful page. Point to something bright and ask, 'your child, what color is this?'

  2. 2

Now let's look at a picture with a scene. Ask, 'your child, where is this? Is this a park, a home, or somewhere else?'

  3. 3

Let's look at a character's face. Ask, 'your child, how do you think this person feels? Are they happy, sad, or something else?'

  4. 4

Let's look at what the characters are doing. Ask, 'your child, what is this person doing in the picture?'
