How it works

  1. 1

First, let's introduce the guitar. Show your child the toy or real guitar and say, 'Look, we have a guitar! Can you say guitar?'

  2. 2

Now let's practice the /g/ sound. Say, 'Guitar starts with /g/. Let's make the /g/ sound together: /g/ /g/ /g/. Feel how the back of your tongue lifts up?'

  3. 3

Time for a song! Sing a simple song you both know, like 'Twinkle Twinkle,' and pretend to strum the guitar. Then try adding a /g/ word, like 'go' or 'good.' Say, 'Let's sing with a /g/ word: 'Go, go, go, little star!'

  4. 4

Let's get creative! Encourage your child to make up a silly song or just strum and say /g/ words. Say, 'Can you play the guitar and say 'guitar' or 'go'? What other /g/ words can we add?'
