Free style scribbles II

Let your little one draw freely - whatever {he_she} feels like doing! Give your youngster a few minutes to finish up {his_her} masterpiece and then ask {him_her} to explain it to you. What did {he_she} draw? What colors did {he_she} use and why? Pay attention to {his_her} speech. How many sentences can {he_she} string together? How many words does {he_she} use in each?

How it works

  1. 1

Let's start by inviting your child to draw freely. Say something like, 'your child, let's draw! You can draw anything you want - whatever makes you happy!' Give them a few minutes to create their masterpiece.

  2. 2

Now that your child has finished or is nearly done, let's ask about the drawing. Say, 'your child, I love your drawing! Can you tell me what you made?'

  3. 3

Let's ask about colors next. Say, 'Those are beautiful colors! Which colors did you use? Why did you pick those colors?'

  4. 4

Now let's listen to how your child puts sentences together. As they talks about the drawing, notice: how many sentences can they string together? How many words in each sentence? You might say, 'Tell me the story of your drawing!'
