How it works

  1. 1

First, let's explain what a news reporter does. Say to your child: 'We're going to pretend to be news reporters! Reporters tell people about things that happen. Let's talk about what happened today. I'll go first!'

  2. 2

Now give your example report. Say something like: 'This is you reporting! Today, we had pancakes for breakfast and played with blocks. Now it's your turn, reporter your child!'

  3. 3

Encourage your child to give their own report. Ask: 'What would you like to report about today, reporter your child? Tell us what happened!'

  4. 4

Ask a follow-up question to extend the conversation. Say: 'That was great reporting! What happened next after that? Or how did that make you feel?'
