A shared storybook reading activity where you emphasize pronouns, explain they replace nouns, and ask questions to encourage your toddler to use pronouns like 'he,' 'she,' 'I,' and 'you' in response.

How it works

As we start reading, I'll point out a pronoun. Let's look at this page. See the boy? The story says, 'He is playing.' 'He' is a pronoun—it stands for 'the boy.' Can you tell me: What is he doing?

Now let's look at this character. Here's a girl. The story says, 'She is jumping.' 'She' is the pronoun for the girl. How about her? What is she doing?

Let's try one more! Look at this picture of a child like your child. The story might say 'I' or 'you.' If I ask, 'What are you doing?' how would you answer? Use 'I' to talk about yourself!
