How it works

  1. 1

First, let's show your child how to make the 'N' sound. Sit facing them so they can see your mouth clearly. Say 'nnnnn' slowly, making sure your tongue touches the roof of your mouth and your teeth are slightly apart. Make it fun with big facial expressions! Then invite your child to try.

  2. 2

Now let's play with 'N' in words. Take your storybook and point to a picture with an 'N' word, like 'nest' or 'night.' Say the word slowly, emphasizing the 'N': 'nnn-est.' Ask your child: 'Can you hear the nnn sound in nnn-est?'

  3. 3

Time for story emphasis! Read a short part of the story, but each time you encounter an 'N' word (like 'nice,' 'noon,' 'banana'), pause and exaggerate that 'nnn' sound. Then ask your child: 'Did you hear our special sound in that word?'
