Find the Verb I

To begin this activity, tell {child_name} that you'll be learning about verbs today. Explain that verbs are action words, they describe what we do. Begin reading and pause every time you mention a verb. Talk to your little one about it. What does it mean? What are the characters doing? Does {he_she} like doing that? This will help your child begin to familiarize {him_her}self with different verbs so that {he_she} can add them to {his_her} vocabulary.

How it works

  1. 1

Let's start reading. I'll pause when we find our first verb. Look, the boy is *running* in the park. Can you ask your child, 'What is the boy doing?'

  2. 2

Now let's find another verb. Here, the girl is *jumping* over a puddle. Ask your child, 'What is the girl doing? Can you show me jumping?'

  3. 3

Here's a fun one: the dog is *sleeping* on the rug. Ask your child, 'What is the dog doing? Do you like sleeping too?'
