How it works
- 1
Great! Now let's color our cake together. While we color, we can talk about birthdays. you, you could ask your child about their favorite birthday memory or what they likes about birthday cakes.
- 2
Now let's make our candles! We need 10 candles for our cake. you, help your child draw and color each candle a different color, then carefully cut them out. While you work, count together: one candle, two candles, three candles...
- 3
Now for the magic part! you, explain that we put candles on cakes to show how old someone is. Ask your child: 'How many candles would we put on YOUR birthday cake?' Then try: 'How many for Mommy/Daddy?' or 'How many for a friend who is 5?'
- 4
Let's celebrate our finished cake! you, ask your child to tell you about the cake they made. 'Whose birthday cake is this?' 'How do you know how many candles to put?' 'What was your favorite part of being a bakery chef?'
