Pretend Burgers II
A pretend play activity where children practice cutting skills using playdough tubes as burger ingredients, developing independence and safe food preparation skills.
Opens a guided voice session in TogetherTime.
How it works
- 1
First, let's make our burger ingredients! Show your child how to roll the different colored playdough into thick tubes using their hand and a firm surface. We'll need brown for the burger, red for ketchup, green for lettuce, and white for the bun. Say, 'Let's roll our playdough into thick tubes for our pretend burger!'
- 2
Now for the cutting practice! Lay out the tubes and show your child how to hold the child-safe knife. Say, 'Now let's cut slices for our burger! Hold the knife like this and press down gently.'
- 3
Time to assemble our burgers! Show your child how to stack the slices and shape the top bun. Say, 'Let's build our burger! What should go first? The bun, then the burger, then lettuce...'
- 4
Let's celebrate and reinforce the learning! Ask your child to 'serve' the pretend burger and describe what they made. Say, 'Now you're the chef! Can you serve me your delicious burger and tell me about it?'
