Simon Says Get Dressed

Parent plays a 'Simon Says' dressing game with child, encouraging independent dressing skills through playful commands. The agent coaches the parent to observe the child's ability to follow multi-step instructions, manage clothing items independently, and make simple clothing choices — building self-care competence and executive function.

What you'll need

Easy-to-wear clothing items (sweatpants, t-shirts, shoes without laces) gathered in a pile. Child dressed in underclothes or pajamas. Open space for movement. Optional: fun background music.

How it works

  1. 1~45s

Let's start with a simple command. Say 'Simon says put on a t-shirt!' Watch how your child approaches this. Does they identify which item is the t-shirt from the pile? Notice the technique — does they find the neck hole first, put arms through sleeves independently, or need some guidance? Tell me what you observe about their shirt-putting-on skills.

Watch for: Child puts on a shirt without buttons independently, demonstrating self-care dressing skills.

  2. 2~50s

Now let's try pants. Say 'Simon says put on your pants!' This is trickier because it involves balance and coordination. Watch how your child manages — does they sit down to put them on? Can they identify which leg goes in which hole? Notice if they follows through with the entire sequence without getting distracted. What do you see?

Watch for: Child follows multi-step dressing instructions, maintaining focus through the complete sequence.

  3. 3~40s

Now let's add some choice-making. Say 'Simon says choose which shirt you want to wear next!' Then give a specific color command — 'Simon says put on the blue shirt!' Watch how your child responds. Does they make a deliberate choice from the options? Can they identify the correct color when asked? This combines decision-making with following instructions.

Watch for: Child makes deliberate clothing choices and follows specific attribute-based instructions.
