Exploring Hands and Feet
Parent helps baby discover their own body by gently bringing hands and feet toward baby's mouth. The agent coaches the parent to observe how baby perceives their own limbs — watching for hand regard, oral exploration, and intentional reaching as signs of developing body awareness and cognitive self-recognition.

How it works
- 1~25s
Start by gently taking your child's hands and slowly bringing them toward their mouth. Be slow and gentle — let your child feel what's happening. Watch closely — does your child open their mouth? Does they seem to notice their own hands? Some babies will start sucking on their fingers, others might just look surprised. Tell me what your child does.
Watch for: Baby shows awareness when hands are brought to mouth — opening mouth, sucking, or actively engaging with hands orally.
- 2~25s
Now hold your child's hands up where they can see them — right in front of their face, about eight inches away. Wiggle their fingers gently. Does your child look at their own hands? This is called 'hand regard' and it's a beautiful sign that your child is starting to understand these are part of them. Watch their eyes — do they focus on the hands?
Watch for: Baby fixates gaze on own hands when held in visual field, showing emerging self-awareness.
- 3~30s
Now let's try feet! Gently bring your child's feet up toward their mouth — don't worry if they don't reach, it's the journey that matters. Some babies love their feet, others are puzzled by them. Does your child look at their feet? Does they try to grab them? Any reaching or grasping toward the feet is wonderful to see.
Watch for: Baby shows interest in own feet — looking at them, reaching for them, or attempting to grasp them.
- 4~25s
One more thing to try — bring your child's hands together in front of them. Watch to see if they starts feeling one hand with the other. This is called 'hand-to-hand exploration' and it's a sign that your child is learning about touch and discovering that both hands are connected to the same body. Does your child explore their own fingers or clasp hands together?
Watch for: Baby explores one hand with the other — touching, clasping, or feeling fingers.
