Tower of Colors and Sizes

Parent and child build a tower using colored stacking blocks, sorting by color and arranging by size. The agent coaches the parent to observe the child's understanding of size concepts, color naming, and sorting abilities — building early abstract thinking and classification skills.

What you'll need

Parent and child sitting together on floor or at low table. Assorted colored stacking blocks of different sizes spread out within reach. Space should be clear of distractions.

How it works

  1. 1~45s

Let's start by exploring the blocks together. Point to the different colors and say, 'Look at all these colors!' Then ask your child, 'Can you find all the red blocks?' or choose another color you see. Watch how your child approaches this task. Does they understand what you're asking? Does they look for blocks that match the color you named? Tell me what you notice.

Watch for: Child groups blocks by color when asked, showing early classification skills.

  2. 2~50s

Now let's build our tower! Explain to your child, 'We're going to put the biggest blocks on the bottom and the smallest on top.' Show them what you mean by holding up a big block and a small block. Then say, 'Can you find a big block for the bottom?' Watch how your child responds. Does they understand 'big' versus 'small'? Does they choose appropriately?

Watch for: Child demonstrates understanding of size concepts by selecting appropriate blocks when asked for 'big' or 'small'.

  3. 3~60s

As you continue building the tower together, try integrating color naming. Each time your child places a block, ask 'What color is this block?' or say 'You're adding a blue block!' Watch their response. Does your child name colors spontaneously? Does they correct you if you name a color wrong? We're looking for both color recognition and verbal expression.

Watch for: Child names colors correctly during the activity, showing color vocabulary development.
