Shape Landing Jump

Parent sets up shape targets on the floor and guides child to jump from a low step onto the shapes. The agent coaches the parent to observe jumping technique, balance, and shape recognition while building gross motor skills and confidence in physical movement.

What you'll need

Low step or platform (10-12 inches high) with clear landing area. Paper shapes (circle, triangle, square) placed on floor in front of step. Safe, non-slip surface. Parent positioned nearby for spotting if needed.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start by helping your child stand on the step facing the shapes. Hold their hands if needed for balance. Say 'Ready, set, jump!' and encourage them to jump down onto the floor — not necessarily onto a shape yet. Watch their technique closely: does your child bend their knees before jumping? Do both feet leave the step at the same time? Tell me what you notice about their jumping form.

Watch for: Child jumps down from low step using both feet simultaneously with controlled landing.

  2. 2~35s

Now point to one of the shapes — maybe start with the circle since it's familiar. Say 'Jump onto the circle!' Watch how your child approaches this: does they jump forward from the step to land on the shape, or just jump straight down and then step onto it? Notice if they looks at the target before jumping and adjusts their position. What do you see?

Watch for: Child jumps forward from standing position, covering distance with both feet together.

  3. 3~40s

Let's make it a game! Call out different shapes — 'Jump on the triangle!' 'Now land on the square!' Watch how your child responds: does they look at the correct shape before jumping? Does they remember which shape is which? Also notice their confidence — after a few jumps, does they need less help or hesitation? Tell me how your child combines the cognitive and physical tasks.

Watch for: Child jumps down from increased height with control and confidence.
