Drawing Streets Play

Parent and child draw 'streets' on paper with crayons, focusing on horizontal strokes and color recognition. The agent coaches the parent to observe fine motor control, scribbling imitation, and color identification — building early writing skills through playful drawing.

What you'll need

Child seated at table or on floor with paper. Several crayons of different colors available. Toy cars optional for play extension. Ensure space is comfortable for drawing.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start by drawing a simple horizontal line across the paper — like a road. Make it nice and clear. Now hand a crayon to your child and say, 'Your turn! Can you draw a road just like mine?' Watch how your child holds the crayon and attempts the stroke. Does they try to make a horizontal line, even if it's wobbly? Tell me what you notice about their movement.

Watch for: Child attempts to imitate parent's horizontal stroke, showing early copying of simple lines.

  2. 2~35s

Now let's add some color fun. Place two different colored crayons in front of your child — say, red and yellow. Ask, 'Can you use the red crayon to color our road?' Watch to see if your child picks up the correct color. If they does, try asking for the yellow next. Notice if they recognizes the color names or needs pointing or other cues.

Watch for: Child identifies and selects named colors from a small set of crayons.

  3. 3~40s

Now encourage your child to 'color the road' using horizontal strokes. You might say, 'Let's make the road nice and wide — color back and forth like this.' Demonstrate a few horizontal coloring strokes. Watch your child's arm and wrist movement. Does they use a side-to-side motion? Are the strokes mostly horizontal, or does their hand wander in circles or other directions?

Watch for: Child produces deliberate horizontal strokes while coloring, showing controlled left-right movement.
