Necklace and Belts Time

Parent and child create colorful necklaces or belts by painting dry pasta and threading it onto yarn. The agent coaches the parent to observe fine motor precision, hand strength, and color identification skills — building finger dexterity and creative expression through a multi-step craft activity.

What you'll need

Workspace with table or floor area protected for painting. Dry pasta with holes (various shapes if possible), water paints, brushes, yarn or string, and containers for sorting. Have paper towels or cloths handy for cleanup.

How it works

  1. 1~45s

Let's start by painting the pasta. Give your child a few pieces of dry pasta and the water paints. Watch how they holds the brush and applies paint to the small surfaces. Does your child use controlled strokes to cover the pasta without excessive dripping? Can they name the colors they is using? Notice the finger movements and grip strength as they manipulates both brush and pasta.

Watch for: Child demonstrates controlled hand movements and appropriate grip strength during precision tasks like painting small objects.

  2. 2~40s

While the pasta dries, let's work with the yarn. Give your child the yarn and ask them to sort the painted pasta by color or size. Listen to how they describes the differences — does your child correctly identify colors? Does they use comparative words like 'bigger' or 'smaller'? This sorting step builds cognitive skills while we wait for our materials to dry.

Watch for: Child correctly identifies and names colors during sorting activity, showing color concept understanding.

  3. 3~60s

Now for the main event — threading! Give your child the dried pasta and yarn. Show them how to thread one piece, then let them try. Watch closely: does your child successfully guide the yarn through the small holes? Does they use a pincer grasp to hold the pasta steady? Notice the hand-eye coordination and patience required for this precise task.

Watch for: Child successfully threads pasta onto yarn, demonstrating fine motor precision, hand-eye coordination, and bilateral coordination.
