Collect the Flags Race
Parent and child race to collect colored flags placed around a room, practicing running with quick turns and coordinated arm movements. The agent coaches the parent to observe running control, turning ability, and limb coordination — building gross motor skills through playful competition.

What you'll need
Clear play space with flags scattered around room. Need 10 flags (5 each of two colors) made from construction paper taped to straws. Space should allow for running with turns. Parent and child wearing comfortable clothes and shoes.
How it works
- 1~30s
Let's start the race! Say 'Go!' and both run to collect your first flags. As your child runs, watch their arm movements closely. Do their arms swing in the opposite direction of their legs — right arm forward when left leg steps, and left arm when right leg steps? This coordination helps with balance and speed. Tell me what you notice about your child's running form.
Watch for: Child demonstrates coordinated arm-leg movement while running — arms swing opposite to legs.
- 2~40s
Now watch as your child approaches a flag that requires a sharp turn. Place some flags behind furniture or in corners so they has to change direction quickly. Notice how your child manages the turn — does they slow down or stop completely? Or can they pivot and keep running without losing balance? The ability to turn while maintaining momentum shows developing running control.
Watch for: Child makes quick turns while running without stopping or falling.
- 3~45s
For this final round, watch your child's overall running control as they collects the last few flags. Notice how their arm coordination and turning ability work together. Does they maintain good form even when excited or tired? Can they adjust their speed appropriately — slowing for tight turns, speeding up on straightaways? This integrated control is what makes running efficient and fun.
Watch for: Child demonstrates controlled running with appropriate speed adjustments and maintained form.
