Playdough Bakery
Parent and child engage in imaginative bakery play with playdough, focusing on fine motor skills like rolling, flattening, and shaping. The agent coaches the parent to observe hand coordination, scissor use, and tool manipulation while supporting pretend play and role assignment.

What you'll need
Playdough in various colors, optional kitchen tools (rolling pin, plastic knife, cookie cutters). Clear table or play surface. Both parent and child seated comfortably.
How it works
- 1~45s
Let's begin by opening our bakery! Ask your child what roles you should each play. Maybe they wants to be the chef and you the customer. Now, start with making pie crusts. Show your child how to roll the playdough into a ball, then flatten it. You can use a rolling pin or just press with hands. Watch how your child approaches this task. Does they use both hands together? Is their rolling or pressing motion coordinated? Tell me what you notice about their hand movements.
Watch for: Child demonstrates coordinated use of hands and optional tools to flatten and shape playdough.
- 2~50s
Now let's make some bakery items! Suggest making cookies, pies, or bread. Show your child how to shape the playdough — maybe pinch edges for a pie crust or use cookie cutters. Watch as they creates shapes. Does your child make recognizable forms? Does they use fingers independently for detailed work, like pinching or poking decorations? Notice how their fingers work together.
Watch for: Child uses precise finger movements to shape and detail playdough creations, demonstrating fine motor control.
- 3~40s
Time for some bakery finishing touches! If you have a plastic knife or safe scissors, show your child how to cut the playdough — maybe slicing a 'loaf of bread' or trimming pie crust. If not, you can use a string or edge of a ruler. Watch how your child handles the cutting motion. Does they hold the tool appropriately? Is the cutting motion controlled and intentional? Pay attention to their wrist and hand stability.
Watch for: Child demonstrates controlled cutting or slicing motions with appropriate tools, showing wrist stability and hand strength.
