Soccer Kicks and Jumps

Parent sets up a simple soccer game with a ball and target, coaching the child to kick a moving ball and jump off a small step. The agent guides the parent to observe leg strength, coordination with moving objects, and controlled jumping — building gross motor skills through playful physical activity.

What you'll need

Open play space clear of obstacles. Have a soft ball and a target (basket/box/marked spot) ready. A small step or low stool (4-6 inches high) should be nearby. Ensure floor surface is not slippery.

How it works

  1. 1~45s

Let's start with the basics. Place the ball on the ground in front of your child. Show them how to kick it with the inside of their foot — that's the flat part, not the toes. Encourage your child to kick the ball toward your target. Watch how they approaches it — does they step forward with the opposite foot? Does they make contact cleanly or does the ball kind of roll off their foot? Tell me what you notice about their kicking form.

Watch for: Child coordinates leg movements to kick a stationary ball with some control and intentional direction.

  2. 2~60s

Now let's make it more dynamic. Roll the ball gently toward your child and ask them to kick it back to you as it comes. This is trickier because they has to time the kick with the moving ball. Watch closely — does your child wait for the ball to arrive or rush toward it? Does they adjust their foot position to meet the ball? This shows their ability to interact with moving objects.

Watch for: Child successfully kicks a ball that is rolling toward them, showing timing and coordination with a moving object.

  3. 3~50s

Now let's work on jumping. Place the small step or stool on a soft surface. Help your child step up onto it, then encourage them to jump down. Watch carefully — does your child bend their knees to prepare? Does they land on both feet at the same time? Does they maintain balance after landing? This controlled jumping builds leg strength and coordination.

Watch for: Child jumps down from a low step with controlled landing, bending knees and maintaining balance.
