My Kicks II

Parent and child engage in playful soccer practice, kicking a ball back and forth and toward a net. The agent coaches the parent to observe leg strength, coordination with moving objects, and throwing mechanics — building gross motor skills through dynamic play.

What you'll need

Open space indoors or outdoors. Soft ball (soccer ball or similar). Optional: net, goal, or target marker. Parent and child standing a few steps apart.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Let's start with a simple pass. Stand a few steps away from your child and gently roll the ball toward them. Say 'Your turn to kick!' and encourage your child to kick it back to you. Watch closely — does your child make contact with the moving ball? Notice if they uses one foot or both, and how their body balances during the kick. Tell me what you see.

Watch for: Child successfully kicks a ball that is rolling toward them, making intentional contact.

  2. 2~35s

Now let's mix it up! Ask your child to throw the ball back to you this time — but with a challenge: 'Can you throw it over your head with both hands?' Show your child how to lift the ball with both hands and toss it upward and backward. Watch their technique — does your child use both hands? Does they bring the ball up overhead before releasing?

Watch for: Child throws a ball over their head using both hands, with some upward and backward motion.

  3. 3~40s

Now let's aim for a target! Set up your net, box, or mark a spot on the wall or floor. Roll the ball to your child again and say 'Kick it into the goal!' Watch how your child coordinates their limbs — does they step toward the target? Does they adjust their body to aim? Notice the fluidity of the movement from receiving the ball to kicking toward the target.

Watch for: Child shows coordinated limb movement during the kick — stepping, balancing, and swinging leg with fluidity.
