Free Coloring Play
Parent engages child in free-form coloring with markers or crayons, observing scribbling patterns and wrist movement. The agent coaches the parent to notice vertical/horizontal line attempts, wrist isolation, and finger tracing — building fine motor control and early writing foundations through creative expression.

What you'll need
Child seated at table or on floor with paper secured (tape corners if needed). Provide 2-3 chunky markers/crayons. Parent positioned nearby to model and observe. Paper should be large enough for free movement.
How it works
- 1~45s
Start by inviting your child to pick a marker and just make marks on the paper — any marks they wants! Watch how your child holds the marker and moves their hand. Pay special attention to their wrist. Is your child moving just their wrist while keeping the arm still, or is they using their whole arm? Tell me what you notice about their movement style.
Watch for: Child isolates wrist movement while scribbling, keeping forearm relatively stable.
- 2~50s
Now let's focus on the types of marks your child is making. I'll model something — watch me draw some up-and-down lines. {Parent_name}, you try drawing a few vertical lines too, saying 'up, down, up, down' as you go. Then invite your child to try. Does your child attempt any up-and-down movements? Even if they're wobbly or short, we're looking for that vertical intention. What do you see?
Watch for: Child attempts to draw vertical lines (up-and-down movements) either spontaneously or through imitation.
- 3~60s
Let's switch to side-to-side motion. Draw a few horizontal lines yourself, saying 'across, across' as you go. Encourage your child to try. Also, let's make this playful with colors — ask your child to hand you a specific color marker, like 'Can you give me the blue one?' Watch if your child attempts horizontal marks and if they recognizes color words. What do you observe?
Watch for: Child attempts to draw horizontal lines (side-to-side movements) either spontaneously or through imitation.
