On My Tiptoes

Parent and child practice walking on tiptoes together to improve balance and foot strength. The agent coaches the parent to observe the child's ability to maintain tiptoe position, balance with minimal support, and integrate this skill into playful movement — building foundational gross motor control.

What you'll need

Clear floor space safe for standing and walking. Parent and child standing facing each other or side-by-side. Shoes optional — bare feet or socks work well. No materials needed.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start by showing your child what tiptoes look like. Lift yourself up onto the tips of your toes, hold for a moment, then come down. Do this a few times with a playful voice — 'Up, up, up... and down!' Then invite your child to try. Say 'Can you stand on your tiptoes like me?' Watch closely as they attempts it. Does your child get up onto their toes? Can they hold the position even briefly? Tell me what you see.

Watch for: Child can lift heels off ground and balance on tiptoes in a stationary position.

  2. 2~40s

Now let's try walking on tiptoes together. Stand beside your child and hold their hand. Say 'Let's tiptoe walk like quiet mice!' Take small, slow steps on your tiptoes, encouraging your child to follow. See if they can take at least a few steps while staying up on their toes. Notice how much support your child needs from your hand — is they leaning heavily, or just using it lightly for confidence?

Watch for: Child can walk several steps while maintaining tiptoe position, with minimal hand support.

  3. 3~35s

Let's make it a game! Ask your child to try standing on one foot — like a flamingo — after a few tiptoe steps. You can demonstrate: tiptoe three steps, then lift one foot and hold. See if your child can attempt this combination. Watch for how they manages the transition from tiptoe walking to single-leg balance. Does they need to put their foot down right away, or can they hold for a moment?

Watch for: Child can briefly balance on one foot after tiptoe walking, showing integration of balance skills.
