One Foot Show
Parent guides child through a playful balance challenge involving standing on one foot while holding a ball, then catching and kicking. The agent coaches the parent to observe single-leg balance duration, ball catching coordination, and directional kicking accuracy — building foundational gross motor skills and body control.
Opens a guided voice session in TogetherTime.
What you'll need
Open floor space clear of obstacles. Two soft, lightweight balls (plastic, foam, or fabric). Parent and child standing facing each other with several feet of space between them.
How it works
- 1~30s
Start by showing your child the challenge. Hold your ball with both hands, then lift one foot off the ground and try to hold it for two seconds. Make it playful — you might wobble a bit and that's okay! Now invite your child to try. Give them a ball to hold with both hands, then say 'Can you lift one foot like me?' Watch closely — does your child manage to lift one foot while holding the ball? Even a brief lift counts! Tell me what you see.
Watch for: Child balances on one foot for at least two seconds while holding a ball with both hands.
- 2~35s
Now let's add a catching challenge. Stand a few feet away from your child. Gently bounce your ball to them — aim for a soft bounce that arrives at waist level. Watch how your child responds. Does they track the ball with their eyes? Try to catch it with both hands? Even if they doesn't catch it, notice if they makes an attempt. Tell me what happens.
Watch for: Child successfully catches a gently bounced ball using both hands.
- 3~40s
For our final challenge, let's practice kicking with direction. Place your child's ball on the ground. Say 'Can you kick the ball to me?' Point to where you're standing. Watch how your child approaches this. Does they look at you, then at the ball? Does they kick with some force and generally toward you? Even if it's not perfectly accurate, we're looking for intentional directional kicking. What do you see?
Watch for: Child kicks ball with intention toward a specific target or direction.
