Color Ball Rolling
Parent guides child in rolling playdough balls between hands and placing them in an ice cube tray, observing fine motor coordination and hand strength. The agent coaches the parent to notice bilateral hand coordination, pressure control, and precision placement — building foundational skills for later writing and tool use.

What you'll need
Child seated at table or on floor with playdough and ice cube tray within reach. Playdough should be soft and pliable. Workspace should be clear of distractions. Parent positioned to observe child's hands.
How it works
- 1~45s
Start by showing your child the different playdough colors. Then take a small piece of one color and demonstrate rolling it between your palms to make a ball. Now give your child a piece and say 'Your turn! Roll it between your hands like this.' Watch closely — does your child use both hands together in a coordinated rolling motion? Or does they mostly use one hand or press with fingers? Tell me what you notice about their hand coordination.
Watch for: Child uses coordinated bilateral hand movement to roll playdough into balls between palms.
- 2~40s
Now let's work on precision placement. Ask your child to take one of their playdough balls and place it in a compartment of the ice cube tray. You might say 'Can you put the red ball right here?' Watch how your child approaches this — does they use a careful pincer grasp or whole hand? Does they look at the target compartment as they places the ball? Notice the accuracy and control.
Watch for: Child places small playdough balls accurately into ice cube tray compartments using controlled hand movements.
- 3~50s
Let's explore hand strength now. Give your child a larger piece of playdough and ask them to make a bigger ball. Watch how they adjusts their grip and pressure — does they use more force? Can they maintain the rolling motion with the heavier resistance? Also try asking your child to make tiny balls using just thumb and fingertips. Notice how they modulates pressure for different sizes.
Watch for: Child adjusts hand pressure and grip strength appropriately for different playdough sizes and tasks.
