Parent reads a storybook with their child, inviting them to turn each page. The agent coaches the parent to observe the child's fine motor coordination, precision, and sequencing skills while fostering literacy engagement and color recognition.

What you'll need

Parent and child sitting comfortably side-by-side with a storybook. Choose a book with pages that are not too thin. Ensure good lighting and a quiet, focused environment.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start by opening to the first page. As you finish reading that page, invite your child to turn to the next one. Say something like, 'Your turn to turn the page!' Watch closely how they approaches it. Does your child use a pinching grasp with thumb and finger, or a whole-hand swipe? Does they manage to turn just one page, or do a few stick together? Tell me what you notice.

Watch for: Child uses a coordinated, deliberate method to turn a single book page.

  2. 2~45s

Let's continue reading for a few more pages. Each time you finish a page, pause and let your child do the turning. Notice the rhythm — does they wait for your cue, or try to turn ahead? Also, watch their eyes. After turning, does your child immediately look at the new picture, showing they connects the action with revealing the story?

Watch for: Child turns pages in correct sequence, integrating the motor action with visual attention to the new content.

  3. 3~40s

Now, let's add a little color hunt to keep it engaging. As you read, pick a page and say, 'Can you turn the page and then find something blue for me?' or name another color. Watch how your child manages the two-part task — turning the page precisely and then scanning the image. Does they use a finger to point to the color? This combines fine motor control with visual discrimination.

Watch for: Child successfully completes a two-step task: turning a page and then identifying a named color within the illustration.
