What you'll need

This helps stimulate the acquisition of new words and the pronunciation of phonemes.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Alright, let's get started! To complete this activity, you will need a mirror and images of objects that begin with a phoning ool. Begin this activity seated with your child in front of a mirror. Show your little one how to stick out his or her tongue. you, watch your child closely — I'd love to hear what you notice about how they responds.

Watch for: Little One try to copy the words you say.

  2. 2~30s

Great, now let's try the next part. How to move it from side to side and try to touch their nose with it. Invite your toddler to try it. Next, show him or her objects or images of things that start with a letter L. Tell me what your child does — any reaction counts!

Watch for: Little One imitate a sound like 'pa' after you say it.

  3. 3~30s

One more thing to try. And ask him or her to repeat with you, each one's name, emphasizing the phoning. Congratulate your child every time he or she manages to pronounce a word correctly. During this exercise, observe if your toddler begins to pronounce the phoning ool and imitates mouth movements intentionally. How does your child handle this? What do you see?

Watch for: Little One copy animal sounds.
