How it works

  1. 1~30s

Alright, let's get started! To complete this activity, you will need a family photograph, a cardboard frame, markers and washable paint. Begin this activity by showing your child that paintings and photographs go in a frame. you, watch your child closely — I'd love to hear what you notice about how they responds.

Watch for: Little One point to caregivers, like 'Mom' or 'Dad'.

  2. 2~30s

Great, now let's try the next part. Give him or her a previously cut cardboard frame, and allow him or her to decorate it as he or she pleases, using markers or a washable paint. Afterward, place a family photograph in the frame, and ask your toddler about his or her family. Tell me what your child does — any reaction counts!

Watch for: Little One look at things or people when called by name.

  3. 3~30s

One more thing to try. What are their names? Where are mom and dad? During this exercise, observe if your toddler searches for familiar people when they're named and points to mom and dad. How does your child handle this? What do you see?

Watch for: Little One know what 'no' means.
