Inside the Hoop
Parent uses a hula hoop and pictures of familiar places to encourage toddler to make simple statements about recent experiences. The agent coaches the parent to observe language production, recall of recent events, and vocabulary use — building early narrative skills and conversational confidence.

What you'll need
Hula hoop placed on floor in open space. 3-5 pictures of familiar places/activities within parent's reach. Parent and child sitting comfortably near the hoop. Environment should be calm with minimal distractions.
How it works
- 1~30s
Pick up one picture that shows a place your child will remember — maybe the playground or a relative's home. Hold it up where they can see it clearly. Say something like 'Look! This is the park!' Then ask a simple question: 'What did we do there?' Watch your child's face and listen closely. Does they try to say any words about what happened? Even one word like 'swing' or 'slide' counts! Tell me what you hear.
Watch for: Toddler attempts to describe a recent activity using one or two words when prompted with a familiar picture.
- 2~25s
Now let's focus on vocabulary. Hold up the same picture and say a clear, simple sentence about it: 'At the park, we saw dogs.' Use a word your child might not say often but would recognize. Then ask 'your child, can you say dogs?' Listen carefully — does they try to repeat the word after you? Watch for any attempt to imitate the sounds, even if it's not perfect.
Watch for: Toddler attempts to repeat a word or phrase modeled by parent during picture discussion.
- 3~35s
Now bring in the hoop! Say 'Let's put the park picture inside the hoop!' Hand the picture to your child and gesture toward the hoop. Watch how they engages with this two-step process: understanding the instruction and completing the action. Does they say anything while placing it? Maybe 'in' or 'hoop'? Or does they repeat your words as they moves? Notice any language that emerges during this physical part of the game.
Watch for: Toddler shows comprehension and engagement with picture activity through following directions and possible verbalizations.
