Pictures and Friends

The agent coaches the parent to observe self-awareness development, social recognition, and early narrative skills — building identity and social understanding through photo conversation.

What you'll need

Parent and child sitting comfortably together with 3-5 photos of child with friends/family. Photos should show clear faces and preferably include the child in them. Quiet space without distractions.

How it works

  1. 1~45s

Start by showing your child one picture at a time. Point to a familiar person in the photo and say their name clearly — 'Look, there's Grandma!' or 'That's your friend Sam.' Then ask your child, 'Can you point to Grandma?' or 'Where's Sam?' Watch how your child responds. Does they look at the right person? Does they try to say the name or point confidently?

Watch for: Child recognizes and identifies familiar people in photographs, showing developing social memory and relationship awareness.

  2. 2~40s

Now let's focus on gender recognition. Choose a photo with both boys and girls or men and women. Point to someone and ask, 'Is this a boy or a girl?' You can simplify by asking 'Is this a mama or a dada?' or 'Boy or girl?' Watch how your child responds. Does they use gender labels correctly? Does they seem to understand the difference?

Watch for: Child identifies gender in photos using basic labels like 'boy', 'girl', 'mama', 'dada'.

  3. 3~50s

Now show your child a photo that includes themself. Point to your child in the picture and ask, 'Who is this?' Watch carefully. Does your child recognize themself? Does they say their own name or point to themself? Then ask about the memory — 'What were you doing here?' or 'Where were we?' See if your child can connect the photo to a past experience.

Watch for: Child recognizes self in photos and connects images to past experiences, showing developing self-awareness and autobiographical memory.
