Move Like Me

Parent models simple body movements for child to imitate, observing the child's ability to copy gestures and follow verbal cues. The agent coaches the parent to notice imitation skills, body part awareness, and social engagement during this interactive movement game — building cognitive imitation and body schema development.

What you'll need

Parent and child facing each other in a clear, safe space. Both should be able to see each other's full body. No materials needed — this is a movement-based activity.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Let's start with something simple. Face your child and say 'Watch me!' Then raise both your arms up high above your head. Hold them there for a moment, then bring them down. Now encourage your child to copy you — you can say 'Your turn!' or 'Can you do it?' Watch closely — does your child try to raise their arms too? Even a small upward movement counts!

Watch for: Child attempts to imitate parent's body gesture after seeing it demonstrated.

  2. 2~35s

Now let's try a specific body part. Tap your head gently with your hand and say 'I'm touching my head!' Do it a few times so your child can watch. Then say 'your child, can you touch your head?' Watch carefully — does your child reach for their head? Even if they doesn't get the exact spot, reaching toward their head shows they understands the request.

Watch for: Child moves toward or touches a named body part when asked to do so.

  3. 3~45s

Let's try a simple sequence. Do three movements slowly: clap your hands, then stomp your feet, then turn around. Do each one clearly with a pause between. Watch your child's engagement — does they try to copy any of the movements? Does they maintain eye contact and seem excited to keep playing with you? We're looking for that social connection during imitation play.

Watch for: Child maintains social engagement and joint attention during imitation play, showing enjoyment of the interactive game.
