Discovering My Surroundings
Parent places baby in a new environment with toys placed around them, encouraging exploration of surroundings. The agent coaches the parent to observe baby's visual attention to toys, hand regard, and early attempts to interact with objects — building cognitive awareness and sensory curiosity.

What you'll need
Baby lying on back on soft surface in a new environment. 3-4 simple toys placed around baby within visual range but slightly out of reach. Room should be well-lit but not overly bright. Baby should be alert and calm.
How it works
- 1~30s
Start by placing your child in the center of your exploration area. Place one colorful toy about 12 inches to their right side, and another to their left. Don't hand them to them — just let them be part of the environment. Now watch your child's eyes closely. Does they notice the toys in their peripheral vision? Does they turn their head or shift their gaze toward either toy? Tell me what you observe about their awareness of these new objects in their surroundings.
Watch for: Baby shows awareness of objects in the environment by turning head or shifting gaze toward toys placed around them.
- 2~30s
Now let's focus on your child's hands. While they is looking around at the toys, notice what they does with their own hands. Does your child bring their hands to their mouth? Does they stare at their hands or fingers, even briefly? This 'hand regard' is an important early cognitive milestone — it's the beginning of understanding that those hands belong to them and can be used to interact with the world. Watch for 30 seconds and tell me what you see.
Watch for: Baby looks at own hands or brings hands to mouth, showing early body awareness and self-discovery.
- 3~40s
Now let's encourage some interaction. Choose one toy and bring it within your child's reach — hold it about 4-6 inches from their hands. Gently touch the toy to their fingers or palm. Watch what happens next. Does your child try to grasp it? If they does get hold of it, does they bring it toward their mouth? Even a brief hold or mouthing attempt counts. This early exploration is the beginning of problem-solving — figuring out how to interact with objects in the environment.
Watch for: Baby attempts to grasp toy and bring it to mouth, showing early exploratory behavior and oral sensory learning.
