Toy Trail

Parent creates a trail of small toys and helps child walk while kicking a ball to each toy, then squatting to pick up toys and place them in a bucket. The agent coaches the parent to observe kicking coordination, squatting balance, and standing transitions — building gross motor skills, balance, and lower body strength.

What you'll need

Open floor space clear of obstacles. Small toys (4-6 items) placed in a trail with space between them. Bucket at starting point. Ball placed in front of child. Parent should be prepared to hold child's hands for support.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start by holding your child's hands for balance. Gently encourage them to kick the ball forward with one foot. You might need to demonstrate or guide their leg at first. Watch how your child coordinates the kicking motion while maintaining balance. Does they make contact with the ball? Does they shift weight appropriately from one foot to the other? Tell me what you notice about their kicking coordination.

Watch for: Child makes kicking motion toward ball while being helped to walk, showing coordination between leg movement and balance.

  2. 2~35s

Now walk your child to the first toy in your trail. Help them squat down to pick it up while you continue holding their hands for support. Watch how your child controls the squatting motion — does they bend at the knees and hips? Does they maintain balance as they lowers and rises? Notice if they can pick up the toy while staying stable.

Watch for: Child squats to pick up toy while walking with assistance, showing controlled lowering and rising with balance.

  3. 3~40s

After your child picks up the toy, help them stand back up from the squatting position. Notice how much assistance they needs — does they push through their legs actively? Can they stand up mostly on their own with just hand support for balance? Then have them place the toy in the bucket. Watch that transition from holding the toy to releasing it into the bucket — another balance challenge!

Watch for: Child stands up from squatting position with assistance, showing leg strength and balance recovery.
