Run and Match!

Parent sets up a simple matching game where {child_name} runs between two points to match pictures or objects. The agent coaches the parent to observe running coordination, directional control, and speed modulation — building gross motor skills, memory, and attention through active play.

What you'll need

Clear, safe space for running (indoors or outdoors). Two identical sets of 2-3 simple pictures or objects. Place one set at starting point, matching set at destination point 10-15 feet away.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Let's start simple. Show your child a picture from your hand — maybe a red circle or a picture of a ball. Then point to the matching picture across the room and say 'Run and find the match!' Watch how your child moves toward the target. Does they run with clear forward momentum, or is it more of a fast walk? Notice the coordination between arms and legs. Tell me what you see.

Watch for: Child picks up speed when moving toward a target, showing running-like momentum rather than walking.

  2. 2~40s

Now let's add some direction changes. Place two different matching pairs in opposite directions — maybe a circle to your left and a square to your right. Show your child one picture and say 'Run to the circle match!' Watch how they processes the direction and adjusts their running path. Does your child run straight toward the correct target, or does they need redirection? Notice if they looks at the target while running.

Watch for: Child runs with intentional direction toward a specific target, adjusting path as needed.

  3. 3~45s

Let's make it a memory challenge! Show your child a picture, then hide it behind your back. Say 'Run and find what matches this!' {He_she} will need to remember the picture while running. Watch how your child balances the physical task of running with the cognitive task of remembering. Does they hesitate at the destination, trying to recall? Or does they run confidently and select correctly?

Watch for: Child remembers a visual target while engaged in physical activity, showing integrated cognitive-motor processing.
