Move and Groove

Parent plays music and models simple body movements for child to imitate, observing imitation skills, following verbal instructions, and motor coordination. The agent coaches the parent to notice how child responds to movement prompts, imitates gestures, and engages in this interactive physical play — building cognitive imitation and body awareness.

What you'll need

Open floor space safe for movement. Music source ready to play. Parent positioned facing child where child can see parent's full body. No other materials needed.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Start by playing the music and sitting facing your child. Make some simple arm movements — maybe raising both arms up high, then out to the sides. Do this slowly and with big, clear gestures. Watch your child closely. Does they try to copy your arm movements? Even a small attempt counts — maybe they lifts their arms a little or watches intently and then moves. Tell me what you notice.

Watch for: Child attempts to imitate parent's body movements after observing them.

  2. 2~35s

Now let's add a verbal instruction. Say to your child, 'Can you move your head like this?' Then slowly tilt your head side to side. Wait a moment to see if your child responds to your words and gesture. Does they tilt their head when you ask? Or does they need you to demonstrate again? Watch how your child processes both your words and your movement.

Watch for: Child responds to simple verbal instruction paired with demonstration by attempting the requested movement.

  3. 3~40s

Now let's try leg movements. If your child is standing, hold their hands for support. Say 'Move this leg!' and lift one of your legs slightly. Then say 'Now this leg!' and lift the other. Watch how your child coordinates their body. Does they shift weight and lift one foot? Does they maintain balance while attempting the movement? Notice the motor coordination alongside the imitation.

Watch for: Child coordinates specific body parts in response to demonstration, showing controlled movement and balance.
