My House!

Parent engages child in pretend play by imitating household activities together. The agent coaches the parent to observe how the child copies adult actions, imitates family roles, and uses imagination during play — building cognitive imitation skills and symbolic thinking.

What you'll need

Open space for movement. No materials needed — this is pretend play using imagination and body gestures. Parent and child should be facing each other with room to move.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Let's start with something simple. Pretend you're sweeping the floor — make sweeping motions with your hands and say 'I'm sweeping!' Watch your child closely. Does they try to copy your sweeping motion? Even if they doesn't get it exactly right, look for any attempt to imitate your action. Tell me what you see.

Watch for: Child attempts to imitate parent's pretend action, showing understanding of imitation during play.

  2. 2~40s

Now let's try a family role. Pretend you're cooking dinner — stir an imaginary pot and say 'I'm cooking like Mommy/Daddy!' Then invite your child to cook with you. Watch to see if your child imitates not just the action, but the family role. Does they pretend to be a family member cooking? You might see them pretend to taste the food or serve it. What do you notice?

Watch for: Child imitates family member roles during pretend play, showing understanding of social roles and symbolic thinking.

  3. 3~45s

Let's create a little story. Pretend you're cleaning the house — sweep, then wipe a table, then put toys away. Do this as a sequence and see if your child follows along with multiple imitations. Then add an emotional element — pretend you're tired after cleaning and say 'Phew, all done!' Does your child imitate the sequence and the emotional expression? Watch for how they connects multiple pretend actions.

Watch for: Child imitates sequences of actions and emotional expressions, showing understanding of extended pretend scenarios.
