Food Exploration Adventure

Parent introduces new foods to baby, observing sensory preferences and communication responses. The agent coaches the parent to notice taste preferences, texture reactions, temperature awareness, and early vocal imitation — building sensory processing and language foundations through food exploration.

What you'll need

Baby sitting in high chair or securely on parent's lap. Two or three different soft foods prepared (e.g., mashed banana, avocado, sweet potato). Foods should be at room temperature or slightly cool. Have a cloth ready for cleanup.

How it works

  1. 1~30s

Let's start with the first food. Place a small amount on your finger or a spoon and bring it close to your child's nose. Encourage them to smell it first — you might say 'Mmm, smell the banana!' Watch their facial expression closely. Does your child lean in with interest, turn away, or show curiosity? Then offer a tiny taste. What's their immediate reaction to that first flavor experience?

Watch for: Baby shows clear preference for certain foods through facial expressions, reaching, or eating behaviors.

  2. 2~40s

Now let's compare textures. Offer two different foods — maybe something smooth like avocado and something with more texture like mashed banana with small lumps. Place a bit of each on the tray or on separate spoons. Watch how your child interacts with each texture. Does they touch them differently? Does they seem to prefer the smooth or textured option? Notice if they explores with their fingers or just tastes from the spoon.

Watch for: Baby shows different reactions to food textures, preferring some over others through eating behavior or tactile exploration.

  3. 3~45s

Let's add one more dimension. If you have a food that's slightly cool from the refrigerator and another at room temperature, offer them both. Say 'Cold banana!' with emphasis on the 'c-c-cold' sound, then 'Warm avocado!' with the 'w-w-warm' sound. Watch your child's reaction to the temperature difference. Does they notice? Also listen — does they try to imitate any of those sounds, especially the easy vowel sounds like 'ba-ba-ba' for banana?

Watch for: Baby shows awareness of temperature differences in foods through facial expressions, eating pace, or tactile responses.
