Conversation Observation
Parent engages in a conversation with another adult while baby observes nearby. The agent coaches the parent to notice baby's attention to social interactions, listening behaviors, and responses to hearing {his_her} name — building early social cognition and auditory processing.

What you'll need
Baby positioned to see both adults clearly — can be sitting independently or supported. Another adult present for conversation. One favorite toy nearby. Quiet environment with minimal distractions.
How it works
- 1~30s
Start by having a natural conversation with the other adult. Talk about something simple — maybe what you did today or plans for tomorrow. Keep your voices at a normal volume. While you're talking, watch your child closely. Does they turn toward your voices? Does their gaze shift between you as you speak? Tell me what you notice about your child's attention to your conversation.
Watch for: Baby shows attention to adult conversation by turning toward voices, shifting gaze between speakers, or showing focused listening behavior.
- 2~40s
Now, during your conversation, naturally include your child's name. You might say something like 'I think your child would love the park tomorrow' or 'your child was so smiley this morning.' Say their name in a normal, conversational tone — not calling directly to them. Watch closely: does your child react to hearing their name? Does they pause, turn, or show any recognition?
Watch for: Baby shows recognition when hearing their name mentioned in conversation — pausing, turning, or changing expression.
- 3~30s
Now, turn your attention to your child. Pick up the favorite toy and show it to them while asking 'Would you like to play with this?' Watch your child's response closely. Does they shift focus from your conversation to the toy immediately? Does their expression change to curiosity or excitement? We're looking at how your child transitions attention from observing to engaging.
Watch for: Baby shows intense, curious observation when parent presents toy — focused gaze, alert expression, and attention shift from conversation to object.
